WHAT ARE COMMON HEATER PROBLEMS?
Lack of maintenance – One of the most common heater problems is caused by a lack of maintenance. This can also cause poor comfort levels and higher energy bills.
Increase in Energy Bills – Your home’s heating system can play a major role in your energy consumption, especially during the cold winter season. If you experience a sudden spike in your energy bills, it could be the result of several problems that range from mild to severe. Our trained technicians have the knowledge and experience not only to find the problem, but also to best advise you on how to proceed.
Odd Noises – Odd noises are the most common signs of a heater in need of emergency repair. Noises that never were there before, such as squeaking, squealing and popping often signal problems with connection or internal parts.
Thermostat Trouble –A faulty thermostat can cause various problems. This would include your heater no longer turning on, or if it’s always on even if the temperature has been met. A faulty thermostat may be an easy fix, while the latter might need a professional to sort and have it checked.
No Fuel –If your heater is emitting a noxious odor, turning on and off intermittently, or not generating an adequate amount of heat, it may be low on fuel. The heater needs fuel to run. If you’ve run out of gas, you can’t heat your home. For any type of furnace that uses fuel, contact us for a professional service to add more fuel or perform necessary repairs.
Air Dust –Dusty situations are quite common and can be because of the presence of high dust in the air. When the furnace loses its efficiency to clean, dust makes its way through the furnace vents. If you are experiencing this situation, either clean the filter or replace it. If nothing seems to make a difference, then contact the professionals.
Leaky ductwork – The ductwork carrying warm air to your living spaces may have small cracks, which allow conditioned air to escape. In addition to poor heating, leaky ductwork may cause backdrafting of gas appliances and increase unhealthy particulates and humidity in the air.
Overrun heat pump – A home heat pump that is constantly running could be because of undersized equipment and/or ductwork, low refrigerant, and/or bad reversing or compressor valves. Heat pumps are best for climates that are consistently less than 35 degrees Fahrenheit. If this is not the case, then your system might be working harder than it should.
Aged Heater – Your heater has a maximum lifespan of 12 – 15 years. If it is not working properly, or you are noticing an increase in your heating bills, it may be time to replace it with a newer and more energy-efficient unit.
Pooling Water –Water pooling around your heater is not a problem to ignore. This could be a sign of a bigger issue like a condensate line blockage that could damage your home and lead to major maintenance costs.
